Senator Manny Pacquiao was caught on video saying that the corruption under the Duterte administration was so bad, he couldn’t stomach what other people were doing.

Pacquiao’s remark prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to challenge him in a speech Monday night (June 28) to identify the government agencies he believed to be corrupt.

Duterte said he will tell people not to vote for Pacquiao in the 2022 elections if he doesn’t give details about the corruption under the current administration.

The undated video making the rounds online showed Pacquiao speaking to an audience at an unknown location. He said corruption is the root of the country’s problems.

“Ang pinaka puno’t dulo ng problema ng bansa natin, lahat ng sinasabi natin—yung illegal drugs, gutom, yung unemployment, mataas yan—ang pinaka puno’t dulo niyan sa totoo lang, sabihin ko sa inyo talaga, ay corruption,” he said.

Pacquiao compared the corruption under Duterte to that of his predecessor, the late former President Benigno Aquino III.

“Sa totoo lang, ngayon talaga, kung ano yung corruption sa past administration, yung kay PNoy, mas doble ngayon o sobra pa. Maniwala ka sa akin. Sabi ko, hindi ko makakain yung ginagawa ng mga ito,” he said.

Pacquiao said that while he has no plans of spending his entire life as a politiko, he wants to reform the country.

“Hindi ko kailangang mag-stay sa pulitika nang matagal o ano. Guguluhin lang sarili ko diyan unless kung may vested interest ako, magnakaw ako diyan, gusto ko ng politics. Pero anytime pwede akong lumabas… umayaw sa pulitika basta maayos lang ang bansa natin,” he said.

Pacquiao warned that Filipinos may be worse off in a decade or two unless corruption is eradicated.
