The Department of Justice has reopened the preliminary investigation into the complaint against Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III’s breach of quarantine protocols stemming from his visit to Makati Medical Center (MMC) last March.
In an order dated September 9, Assistant State Prosecutor Wendell Bendoval said he received a copy of the memorandum from the National Bureau of Investigation dated August 24, 2020, which included a copy of the incident reports submitted by MMC Medical Director Dr. Saturnino Javier.
“In view of the foregoing and in line with the policy of admitting all evidence that could assist in the judicious resolution of complaints, the preliminary investigation of this case is hereby RE-OPENED,” Bendoval said.
Lawyer Rico Paolo Quicho has filed a complaint for violation of Republic Act 11332 (Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Concern Act) against Pimentel for visiting MMC with his pregnant wife while he was suspected to have COVID-19.
Pimentel announced after his hospital visit that he tested positive for the virus.
Bendoval has ordered the camps of Quicho and Pimentel to submit their comments to the NBI’s memorandum report on or before September 21, 2020.
