President Rodrigo Duterte disagreed with the country’s support for an investigation into the alleged war crimes committed in Palestinian territories, Malacañang said on Thursday.
This, after Duterte yesterday revealed that he was not consulted on the Philippines’ vote backing a United Nations (UN) probe into the violations surrounding the latest Gaza violence.
“Normally, we leave it to the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs). However, this is a vote where the president has expressed his concerns on the mechanism and procedure that led to our vote in the UN Human Rights Council,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
According to Roque, appropriate guidelines have been given to relevant senior government officials to ensure that Philippine interests are protected and upheld in multilateral fora.
“The Philippines value and and will continue to maintain excellent relations with Israel and with all partners in the international community in the pursuit of common goals and objectives grounded on shared values and interests,” he concluded.
