IATF may appeal Duterte’s face shield policy: Roque

President Rodrigo Duterte did say that face shields should only be worn in hospitals, Malacañang confirmed Thursday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment after Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Senator Joel Villanueva confirmed that Duterte agreed that face should only be used in healthcare facilities.

“I can only confirm what Senate President Tito Sotto and what Senator Joel Villanueva said earlier that the president did say wearing of face shield should only be in hospitals,” Roque said in a virtual presser.

The spokesperson, however, said that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases, which is recommendatory to the President, could appeal such a decision.

“When the president has decided then that’s the policy. This is without prejudice to IATF appealing possibly. Ang position naman ng DOH (Department of Health), may mga pagkakataon talaga na dapat isuot pa yung face shield at ito po’y lalong-lalo na kapag sa indoors na maraming tao,” according to him.

“I think the possible move of IATF now is to appeal what the President said and what was repeated to the public by the Senate President and Senator Villanueva,” he added.
