The Philippine delegation headed by Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy Robert Borje led a virtual town hall meeting with members of the Filipino community in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
In a video message, President Rodrigo Duterte thanked the OFWs for their contribution to the development of the country.
“Saludo ako sa inyo. You are the heroes. Thank you for everything that you do for our country. Never forget the government is always with you. Hindi ko kayo pababayaan,” said Duterte as he encouraged them to get vaccinated to protect themselves against the viral illness.
During the town hall meeting, Borje reaffirmed the administration’s promise of Kalinga at Malasakit assistance for Filipinos overseas, noting that the passage of a bill creating the Department of Overseas Filipino Workers would ensure greater support for OFWs.
The meeting, which allowed participants tackled Covid-19 restrictions in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia’s labor reform initiative, and OFW repatriation, was a part of the program of activities for the Special Envoy during his official visit to Saudi Arabia, anchored on President Duterte’s commitment to protect and promote the rights and welfare of OFWs across the globe.
Other officials present were Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Arriola, Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan Alonto, Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Enrico Fos, and Office of the Global Media and Public Affairs Assistant Secretary Jusan Vincent Arcena.
