Mas nakakahawa! Palace calls for vigilance over Delta variant

Malacañang on Sunday urged Filipinos to be vigilant against the more infectious Delta variant of the Covid-19.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Delta variant, which was first identified in India earlier this year, spreads more easily than any other Covid-19 strain.

“The travel restriction imposed on passengers coming from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, and Oman was extended until June 30, 2021 to ensure continuous strict border control to prevent the Delta variant from reaching our communities and having community transmission,” according to Roque.

“The abovementioned variant, first detected in India, is more transmissible as seen in the experience of other countries, thus there is a need for continued vigilance,” he added.

Roque clarified that Filipinos covered by the repatriation programs and activities of the government and recruitment agencies cleared by the Bureau of Quarantine are allowed to enter the Philippines.

“They can enter the country, subject to testing and quarantine protocols,” he said.
