Malacañang on Tuesday echoed President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement that a possible investigation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) into President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs was “b*ullsh*t.”
During his weekly public address yesterday, Duterte said he will not cooperate with the ICC, noting that the Philippines is no longer a state party to the court’s Rome Statute.
“It’s BS because in the first place, we are a sovereign country,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during his televised briefing.
“Kung meron dapat mag-imbestiga at maglitis kay presidente, it will have to be Filipino fiscals and trial will have to be before Filipino judges,” he added.
Last week, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda requested authorization to conduct an investigation into Duterte’s bloody anti-drug campaign.
There was a reasonable basis to believe crimes against humanity of murder had been committed during anti-drug operations, she said.
