President Rodrigo Duterte can run for vice president in the 2022 national elections, according to Malacañang.
On Thursday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte’s possible run as vice president would not be unconstitutional.
“Meron tayong constitutional construction rule na ‘what is not prohibited is allowed’,” Roque said in a televised briefing.
“Kung ipinagbabawal po ang Presidente na tumakbo ng VP, dapat sinulat po ‘yan, nagkaroon ng teksto sa ating Saligang Batas na nagpapabawal diyan. Since walang prohibition, it must be allowed,” he added.
The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan earlier adopted a resolution nominating Duterte as the party’s vice-presidential bet in next year’s polls.
On Wednesday, Roque said Duterte will decide on his possible run in coming months.
