Palace reiterates: PDP-Laban meeting had Duterte’s blessing

President Rodrigo Duterte green-lighted the ruling PDP-Laban’s national council meeting in Cebu City last Monday, his spokesman said.

“Ako naman po’y pinag-utusan lamang na linawin na iyong tinawag na pagpupulong ay mayroon pong basbas ni Presidente bilang party chairman. So iyon lang po ang alam ko kasi ako mismo ay hindi ako po miyembro ng PDP Laban,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview over DZXL-RMN Wednesday.

Last week, acting party president and Senator Manny Pacquiao told his partymates to skip the online assembly, saying it was not sanctioned by concerned council officials and violated party rules.

But, Roque on Sunday said that it was Duterte who directed party vice chairman and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi to convene the meeting.

“Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi as Vice Chairman of the ruling party PDP-Laban was directed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who serves as Chairman, to organize, convene and preside over the council meeting,” the spokesman announced.

The national assembly resulted in a resolution urging Duterte to run for the vice presidential post and to choose his running mate in the 2022 national elections.
