The Philippines has extended the ban on travelers coming from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates until June 15.
Malacañang confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases to extend the travel ban from the seven countries.
“The IATF is hereby authorized to approve succeeding extensions of the duration of such travel restrictions, as may be necessary to prevent the further spread of the SARS-COV 2 B.1.617 variant in the country,” Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said in a recent memorandum.
The B.1.617 variant was first detected in India in December last year.
The Philippines has a total of 13 cases of the Indian Covid variant.
