Nakakahiya! Netizens cringe at Lord Velasco’s suck-up move to Sara Duterte

Filipino Reddit users are shuddering at efforts of Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco and the House of Representatives to get into the good graces of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte ahead of the 2022 elections.

Redditor u/Joseph20102011 shared snapshots of the birthday greetings posted on the House’s Facebook page, which featured the signatures of lawmakers from various blocs.

The greetings were compiled, printed and given to Duterte by Velasco and a handful of his colleagues, who flew to Davao City on May 31 for the occasion.

Part of u/Joseph20102011’s post read: “Full force talaga ang House of Representatives sa pagbati ng Happy Birthday kay Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.”

Netizens cringed at the lawmakers’ move to suck up to the mayor, who’s the frontrunner among potential presidential bets in surveys.

“Nakakahiya. Pero ung mga pumirma matik wala sa boto na dapat yan,” said u/effleurer226.

“Para san yang p*tanginang signature na yan? Petition for Happy Birthday? Kap*ta-p*tangina talaga mga monggoloidz,” said u/fvqunds.

“Ah mga very vocal supporter para if manalo, mabibigyan ng position,” said u/engot101.

“Papapel na para maisama sa ticket kung sakali tatakbo,” said u/AdmirableFroyo3.

Duterte has repeatedly said she’s not interested in running for president in 2022 despite clamor from administration supporters who want her to succeed her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.
