PH vote favoring probe into Gaza conflict won’t affect ‘excellent’ ties with Israel – Palace

By Prince Golez

Despite the Philippines’ vote favoring the United Nations Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) investigation into the alleged human rights violations in Gaza, Malacañang remains optimistic about the “excellent” bilateral relations between the Philippines and Israel.

“Iyong boto pong iyan sa UNHRC does not in any way, or should not in any way affect our excellent bilateral relations with Israel,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing Thursday.

“Wala naman pong kinalaman iyan doon sa napakalapit na samahan natin with the state of Israel,” added Roque.

Earlier, Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned Philippine Ambassador to Tel Aviv Macairog Alberto for a “clarification discussion” over the country’s vote backing the probe into the alleged Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Last May 27, the UNHRC passed a resolution, with 24 of the council’s 47 members in favor, to investigate the violations surrounding the latest Gaza violence and the “systematic” abuses in the Palestinian territories and within Israel.
