Sakit sa ulo, bulsa: Oil price hike could put families in debt, Gabriela warns

By Billy Begas

Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Arlene Brosas warned that the fifth consecutive oil price hike this week will further bury mothers and their families into debt ahead of enrollment season for online summer classes as it will spill over the already rising prices of food and basic goods and services.

Oil companies have announced a P1 per liter increase in gasoline and 65 centavos per liter of diesel.

Brosas also demanded transparency from the oil companies by unbundling their fuel prices “so the public can have access to the detailed breakdown of the changes.”

The Department of Energy (DOE) has issued Circular DC2019-05-0008 revising the Guidelines for the Monitoring of Prices in the Sale of Petroleum Products “so the government can make oil price rollbacks or hikes more transparent.”

However, oil companies have issued their opposition on the circular.

“The Duterte government must insist on transparency through the DOE circular.
