The Covid-19 pandemic-hit Philippine economy can get back on track so long as people follow required safety protocols, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said.
During his online commentary show “Counterpoint,” Panelo said life could return to normal if everyone continues to be vigilant and strictly adheres to all the health measures.
“Puwede nating buksan ang ekonomiya. Tandaan niyo, I think ako ang pasaway na nagsabing pwede naman tayong bumalik sa normal basta gawin niyo na lang ‘yung protocols. Lahat, balik tayo sa dati,” he said Saturday.
The abogado made the comment in response to the statement of Employers Confederation of the Philippines president Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr. that the government should keep the economy open and businesses operational.
The country, according to Ortiz-Luis, “cannot be forever terrorized by the coronavirus.”
Panelo, however, said it’s not the pandemic, but ourselves, that is terrorizing the country.
“Tinatakot natin ang mga sarili natin. Pwede naman nating bigyan ng proteksyon ang mga sarili natin,” he concluded.
