Acting Zambales Provincial Prosecutor Leonardo Santos has remained unswayed in his decision to dismiss the sedition case the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed against teacher Ronnel Mas who offered a P50 million reward to anyone who can kill President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a June 22 resolution, Santos dismissed the NBI’s motion for reconsideration which sought to overturn his Feb. 16 ruling that dismissed the the complaint against Mas.
“Indeed, such seditious remarks must not go unpunished. The NBI must be commended in its efforts to contribute in the peace and stability of our country,” the provincial prosecutor stated.
“However, the rules on evidence in establishing probable cause must be upheld.,” he stressed.
The case was re-filed by the NBI before the Zambales Provincial Prosecutor’s Office after the Olongapo City regional trial court (RTC) dismissed the charge in June last year.
Mas arrested on May 11, 2020 by the NBI in Zambales for posting in social media on May 5, 2020: “I will give 50 million reward kung sino makakaptay kay Duterte.”
