Albay Rep. Joey Salceda sees Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte following in the footsteps of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo should she become the country’s next Chief Executive.
Salceda likened Duterte to Arroyo as he claimed that the presidential daughter is bent on running for president in 2022.
“Sure siya sa sarili niya eh. So kayang-kaya niya tulad ni GMA sa more expansive reach to corporate tunnel, advisers and leaders well attuned to modernity,” the lawmaker said in an interview on One News’ “Sa Totoo Lang” on Wednesday (June 2).
Salceda, who served as Arroyo’s economic adviser, said he expects Duterte to modernize the programs started by her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, should she win in 2022.
He said he was impressed by the mayor’s intelligence and guts, which she showed when she punched a court sheriff over the demolition of houses in Davao in 2011.
“Her persona fits the bill of the president that we need in 2022. Number one, [she knows the] judicious use of public resources. Second, instinct niya pro poor in policy. There’s proof,” Salceda said.
