Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente has decided to receive up to the end of November applications for renewals of expired visas.
“Those applicants with visas that expired from March 16 2020 up to 04 June 2021, who were unable to submit their visa application due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and quarantine protocols shall be given up to 30 November 2021 (non-extendible) to file their renewal/extension or amendment visa applications,” read the advisory issued by the BI.
The BI said this only covers “applicants who never left the country.”
“Those applicants whose visas expired while they were out of the country will be admitted as temporary visitors,” it said.
“Hence, they need to apply for conversion of their temporary visitor’s visas to another appropriate visa type,” it added
The BI explained the move was made due to “numerous requests appealing to receive their visa applications despite the expiry of visas to to the effects of Covid-19 (I.e., travel restrictions, transportation dilemma, health issues, economic reasons, and the likes).”
“For humanitarian consideration, the Bureau grants a 6-month non-extendible grace period from the expiry of their visas to file their renewal/extension of visa applications,” it said.
