Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente warned the public against allowing their identities be used by illegal recruiters in getting Filipinos abroad.
Morente made the warning after the BI officers intercepted last July 18 a Filipina who was caught using a passport with the identity of her friend before she could board a flight to Saudi Arabia.
“It appears that these illegal recruiters have found another way to circumvent the law by letting their victims assume the identities of others in order to falsify their age,” Morente said in a statement.
“He warned that those who connive with syndicates and ‘lend’ their identities are equally liable by law,” the BI stated.
The BI noted that the Filipina, who is 20 years old, assumed the identity of her friend who is 24.
The minimum age requirement for household service workers (HSW) in Saudi Arabia is 23.
