Former senators JV Ejercito and Jinggoy Estrada will be banking on their father’s popular surname in their bid for a Senate comeback.
Ejercito confirmed to Politiko that he will be using Estrada if his 2022 senatorial bid pushes through.
“Kailangan pareho (Ejercito-Estrada). Kasi ‘pag Ejercito lang hindi kilala sa rural areas,” he said.
Ejercito is the son of former President Joseph Estrada with ex-San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez. Jinggoy, meanwhile, is Estrada’s son with wife Loi Ejercito.
Jinggoy recently said it would be better if only one Estrada will run for senator next year. The presence of two Estradas in the ballot during the 2019 elections was believed to be a major factor why neither Jinggoy nor Ejercito won as senator.
Ejercito is confident of his chances of returning to the Senate even if he will be running against his half-brother again.
“Mananalo tayo. Malinis pangalan ko at may performance. Ganito rin noong 2019. Come from behind, biglang sisipa,” he said.
