President Rodrigo Duterte ordered local government units (LGUs) not to let people wait for vaccination in flooded areas.
In a taped televised briefing Sunday evening, Duterte urged LGUs to come up with a “more sane” process of vaccination and choose sites that are not flooded.
“People are exposed in the open, unprotected from the elements tapos waiting for a chance to have the shot. Mga three to four hours magtindig diyan. Sabagay baha kasi ngayon eh. They could just have looked for another auditorium there or somewhere to do it,” the country’s chief executive said.
“The most important thing is to look for a dry place… Leptospirosis, then you have the influenza, then you have the respiratory. Pagka tinamaan ‘yan ng a simple cold, it can deteriorate into a respiratory problem. ‘Pag sinakyan ng COVID, patay na,” he added.
Duterte also instructed mayors and barangay captains to arrange scheduled times for immunization appointments.
“Ang problema iyong crowding. People who would respond to the announcement that inoculation shall be given to those who are there on the site but not taking into account, I said, the amount of time and the motion to do it and making them go back. You come back at some other hour,” he also said.
