‘Di garapal! Lord Velasco defends Duterte-Duterte tandem

Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco on Monday defended the Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and President Rodrigo Duterte who may occupy the top two positions in the government.

“I don’t think naman na garapal ‘yan… because it’s still up to the voters whether they’ll vote for a Duterte-Duterte tandem,” said Velasco in a television interview.

Mayor Duterte is among those perceive to run for the presidential race next year while her father said that he may run for vice president.

Velasco also said that he sees no problem with political dynasty.

“I guess the political dynasty has its bad connotation maybe because when we see dynasty before, in the past, nothing has been happening in the said district so that’s why I guess there’s really a negative connotation that people don’t want a dynasty,” Velasco added.

But looking at dynasties right now, Velasco said “a lot of provinces and a lot of districts definitely, we’ve seen very good changes, a lot of progress.”

“So I don’t really see a problem as to dynasties or from the same family serving our country and again, like what I said, it’s up to the voters if they will vote for a Duterte-Duterte tandem,” the House leader added.

Velasco’s father former Supreme Court Associate Justice is the incumbent governor of Marinduque.
