Duterte asks ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa to probe AK-47 importations

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte urged Congress, particularly Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, to look into the importation of AK-47 firearms into the country.

During his final State of the Nation Address Monday, Duterte alleged that said rifles were being used by communist rebels.

“I’d like to ask Congress, especially Senator Bato, kindly dig on because we have identified the person who imported the AK-47 into this country on the pretext of using it in the security — providing security and guards in all, in business establishments and for those who can afford their home,” the country’s chief executive said.

A police official, according to him, could be behind it.

“This policeman, I think, is still there. He was a colonel and he is still… Walang nangyari. At maraming sundalong namatay dahil sa mga armas na pinasok nila dito sa Pilipinas,” said Duterte.

“So that my orders to you, if you see them walking around, kindly shoot them dead. I would be happy,” he told dela Rosa who served as chief of the Philippine National Police from 2016 to 2018.
