President Rodrigo Duterte believes Senator Manny Pacquiao is headed for a knockout—in more ways than one—if he doesn’t win his boxing match against WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. next month.
Fake news? Duterte claims Pacquiao backed out of upcoming boxing match
Duterte claimed Thursday (July 1) that Pacquiao backed out of a boxing match because he’s “too old.”
“You know, he has a scheduled fight but suddenly nag-back out. Probably he knows that he is too old for that,” the President said.
“At bakit umatras ka doon sa boxing? Kasi alam mo kung matalo ka, you are a goner… Kailangan manalo siya, ‘pag natalo siya…wala ka na, wala ka talaga,” he added.
The 42-year-old Pacquiao will fight Spence on August 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao is widely believed to be running for president next year. Duterte, meanwhile, has been critical of the boxing champ, belittling his chances of winning in the 2022 elections.
