Duterte OKs September 13 school year opening

President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the opening of classes for School Year 2021-2022 on September 13, Malacañang confirmed Monday.

“Inaprubhan ng Pangulo ang rekomendasyon ng Department of Education (DepEd) na ang pagbubukas ng klase para sa School Year 2021-2022 ay sa September 13, 2021,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced during his televised briefing.

Roque said private schools and non-DepEd schools may start their classes ahead of the school opening.

“Maaari nang magsimula ng mas maaga ang mga klase ang private schools at non-DepEd schools provided walang face-to-face classes at ang mga nasabing paaralan ay striktong magpapatupad ng distance learning modalities,” he added.

In a statement, the DepEd thanked Duterte for his “full support to the delivery of quality basic education for the incoming school year.”

“We hope for our stakeholders’ continued cooperation and support as we prepare for another challenging yet worthwhile endeavor of educating our children amid a global health crisis,” the department said.
