Duterte thinks Pacquiao ain’t legit PDP-Laban president: Dapat binoto!

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday questioned the designation of Senator Manny Pacquiao as “acting president” of the ruling PDP-Laban party.

Duterte faulted Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, the son of one of PDP-Laban’s founders, the late Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr., for this.

“I do not know what prompted him to just push Pacquiao there and place an acting president,” the Chief Executive said in a speech during the party’s national assembly in Pampanga.

“That is not how things are done. So by that singular act of just designating an acting president, there is no law in the bylaws at saka itong Constitution, which would provide for an acting president solely upon the push and shove of the president.

“You have to elect people. Iyong biglaan na ano doon, doon nagkawatak-watak. And I think (Energy) Secretary (Alfonso) Cusi did not like it. So from there, it spiraled into a more vicious narrative of charge and countercharge,” he added.

At the same event, Cusi, then vice chairperson of the party, was elected as the new PDP-Laban’s president, voting Pacquiao out from the top post.
