ECQ imposed on Metro Manila starting August 6

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte has escalated the quarantine status of the National Capital Region (NCR) to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from August 6 until August 20 amid rising concern over the threat of the Delta Covid-19 variant.

On Friday, Malacañang said Duterte also approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to place NCR under general community quarantine (GCQ) subject to heightened and additional restrictions starting today, July 30 to August 5.

“Inaprubahan ng presidente ang rekomendasyon ng inyong IATF na ilagay ang NCR sa ilalim ng GCQ subject to heightened and additional restrictions. Ito ay magsisimula ngayong araw hanggang August 5. Simula August 6, ang NCR ay ma-e-escalate sa ECQ hanggang August 20, 2021,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an announcement aired over state-run PTV-4.

“Hindi po naging madali ang desisyon na ito. Maraming oras ang ginugol para pagdebatehan ang bagay na ito dahil binabalanse natin yung pagpabagal ng Covid-19 dahil sa Delta variant at yung karapatan natin na mabuhay at maiwasan, mabawasan ang hanay ng mga nagugutom,” he added.

Meanwhile, Roque said Gingoog City, Iloilo City, Iloilo Province, and Cagayan de Oro City will remain under ECQ from August 1 until August 7.

Cebu City and Cebu Province have been added to areas under modified ECQ starting August 1 until August 15, 2021, subject to further appeals by their local government units. Ilocos Norte, Bataan, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City are also under MECQ for the same period.

Baguio City, Apayao, Santiago City, Quirino, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Batangas, Quezon, Puerto Princesa, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, General Santos City, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Cotabato City are placed under GCQ from August 1 to August 31.
