Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is warming up to the prospect of running for president, saying Friday (July 9) that she’s open to seeking the highest elective office in the country.

“Yes opo,” Duterte said when asked during her visit to the Cebu capitol building whether she’s open to running for president in the 2022 elections.

While the presidential daughter stressed she hasn’t made up her mind about a presidential run, she said her visit to Cebu is aimed at finding out what the people want.
“What is important now is that we know the sentiments of the people and what they really want,” Duterte said in Bisaya.

The presidential daughter has emerged in pre-election surveys as the candidate to beat in the 2022 presidential race even if she has yet to announce her political plans.
At least five political parties are also eyeing alliances with Duterte’s party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago. These are: Lakas-CMD, National Unity Party, Nacionalista Party, Pwersa ng Masa Pilipino and the People’s Reform Party.
