Palace condoles with passing of Celia Diaz Laurel

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang condoled with the family of Celia Diaz Laurel, wife of the late Vice President Salvador Doy Laurel, who died Monday evening.

“We relay our sincere condolences to them, as well as to all the relatives, friends and loved ones of Celia, for her demise,” Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said in a press statement released on Tuesday.

Panelo regarded Celia, who just celebrated her 93rd birthday last May, as the “embodiment of the ideals of elegance, grace, compassion and strength.”

She is best remembered for her contribution to the development of the Philippine artistic and cultural landscape as a renowned thespian, celebrated author, accomplished painter, and advocate for the arts, he added.

Apart from her artistic contributions, the Palace official said Celia also supported numerous charities.

“All the world’s a stage, and one of its actors has made her final exit. Her life’s performance was truly beautiful. We pray that the perpetual light will shine upon her and that she may rest in peace,” he concluded.
