Palace hopes compromise will lead to passage of anti-endo bill

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang assured on Tuesday that the government will continue to work with Congress for the passage of the anti-endo bill, saying the measure remains an administration’s priority legislation.

In a virtual presser, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque expressed hope for a “compromise” that will be acceptable to all stakeholders.

“It continues to be a promise,” according to Roque. “I think the whole nation knows na isa siya sa mga campaign promises ng presidente and we continue to reach a compromise na acceptable sa lahat ng stakeholders,” he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte failed to mention the anti-endo bill, which seeks to end labor contractualization, during Monday’s final State of the Nation Address.

In 2019, Duterte vetoed the proposed law, noting that it “unduly broadens the scope and definition of prohibited labor-only contracting, effectively proscribing forms of contractualization that are not particularly unfavorable to the employees involved.”
