President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio should run in the 2022 national elections under different political parties and without running mates, according to Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo
“Tumakbo na lang kayo separately with your own party without a running mate,” Panelo said during his commentary show “Counterpoint.”
“Nakakasiguro po ako, ‘pag tumakbo kayong dalawa independently from each other, kayo pa rin ang mananalo sa halalan. Iyan po ang pulso ng bayan,” he added.
Duterte and Duterte-Carpio emerged as the leading contenders for next year’s vice presidential and presidential race, respectively, according to the latest Pulse Asia survey.
Twenty-eight percent of 2,400 respondents choose the Davao City mayor as their presidential candidate, while 18 percent prefer the Chief Executive for the vice president.
Last July 9, Duterte-Carpio expressed willingness to run for the country’s top post. Duterte, on one hand, said his floated vice presidential bid was just meant to scare his critics.
