To dispute claims that Filipino fishermen were prevented from fishing in the West Philippine Sea, Malacañang on Thursday showed photos of Filipino fishermen and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel in Panatag Shoal.
In a televised briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that PCG patrol vessels BRP Capones and BRP Sindangan ensure that local fishers are given access to the area.
“Mabuhay kayo diyan at harinawa itong mga larawang ito will put an end doon sa controversy na hindi raw po nakakapangisda ang ating mga mga kababayan doon,” Roque also said.
“Pictures don’t lie,” he added.
Earlier, fisherfolk group Bigkis ng Mangingisda claimed that fishermen were still prevented from fishing at Scarborough Shoal and its surrounding areas.
Chinese vessels continued to block their access in various parts of the West Philippines Sea, they said.
