Senator Koko Pimentel insisted that the July 16-17 PDP-Laban meetings called by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi were not authorized, and the election of new officers, including Cusi’s assumption of the party presidency, invalid.
“The gathering hosted by Sec Cusi is not recognized by the existing PDP LABAN leadership,” he said in a statement.
“Since Sec Cusi wants to be a stickler for rules then he should follow all the rules of the Party,” said Pimentel, the son of PDP-Laban founder Nene Pimentel.
Pimentel, a former PDP-Laban president, is allied with Senator Manny Pacquiao, to whom he yielded his position late last year.
“You cannot make attendees to a PDP LABAN party assembly instant members of the party on the spot!” he exclaimed.
“As far as the present PDP LABAN leadership is concerned we will continue to function as the party,” Pimentel said.
