Senate orders early dismissal of employees amid Metro flooding

Senate Secretary Myra Marie Villarica on Wednesday suspended work early at the Senate as floods swamped parts of Metro Manila.

“As approved by Senate Vicente C. Sotto III, all Senate officers and employees are allowed to go home at 1:00 pm today, Wednesday, 21 July 2021 due to the inclement weather and flooding in many areas in Metro Manila,” she said in an advisory to Senate employees.

Many areas in Metro Manila experienced flooding due to heavy rains on Wednesday morning.

But the advisory said “personnel of the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and MGSB who follow a shifting schedule are not included.”

“Meetings, committee hearings and other meetings may proceed subject to the discretion of the Chairman, Senator or office concerned,” it added.
