What Pinoys want to hear from Duterte’s farewell SONA

Most Filipinos expect President Rodrigo Duterte to discuss jobs, economy and inflation in his sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, Monday, results of the latest Pulse Asia survey revealed.

The poll conducted from June 7 to 16 showed that Filipinos hoped for Duterte to detail his administration’s plans for creating jobs (38 percent), improving the national economy (35 percent) and controlling inflation (33 percent).

Other top issues that Filipinos want Duterte to address during his last annual address include plans to expedite Covid-19 vaccination (31 percent), improving the pay of workers (26 percent), improving the educational system (26 percent), actions to be taken to stop Chinese incursion into Philippine territory in the West Philippines Sea (25 percent), fighting graft and corruption (24 percent) and peace in the country (20 percent).

Eradicating the problem of illegal drugs, restoring the people’s trust in the government and changing the Charter ranked at the bottom of the public’s list of concerns at 17 percent, 16 percent, and seven percent, respectively.

Duterte will deliver his at the Batasang Pambansa at 4 p.m.
