By Prince Golez

The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Friday condoled with the family of veteran journalist Melo Acuña who succumbed to complications due to Covid-19.

In a press statement, Secretary Martin Andanar described Acuña, one of the pillars of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines, as a “frank,” “straightforward” and “dedicated” journalist.

“Melo will be remembered for his informative platter shows, which have let us connect with different key information sources on important issues. We will also remember him for his participation in our programs in the PCOO, such as the Laging Handa and the Virtual Presser, among others,” the PCOO chief said.

“As someone who has devoted his life to journalism, Melo will be truly missed, especially by those whose lives he has touched and those he has served through his love for his profession. We will keep our memories of him close to our hearts,” he added.

For his part, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said he was saddened by the passing of Acuña.

“I will remember you for asking insightful questions, framed in context, and always delivered with respect and sensitivity, not just for the institution but for the people who watch the briefing,” Roque said in a Facebook post.

The spokesperson also hoped for the speedy recovery of Acuña’s wife, Ma. Jhona.
