De Venecia urges gov’t to support pandemic-hit creative industries

Creative industries such as theater, film and other live events were one of the most hard hit during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Pangasinan Fourth District Representative Christopher de Venecia called on the government to support this sector.

De Venecia, who currently serves as the Chair of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts, urged the government in an interview on Abante’s Balitaan to support the creative industry sector and stated that he is pushing for the passing of several House Resolutions for this.

“Karamihan sa mga industriyang ito ay talagang either naglaho parang bula tulad ng events at ng theater na before the pandemic talagang very vibrant, andaming mga productions, and then nitong pandemic na walang mass gathering or there’s limitations on mass gathering talagang walang-wala. Because of that maraming nawalan ng trabaho” explained De Venecia.

“Yan yung mga industriya na nagmumula sa talento at skills ng mamamayang Filipino na may potensyal para gumawa ng kayamanan at pati na rin ng intellectual property or yung yamang-isip kung tawagin,” he added.

The creative industries cover a multitude of different fields and subjects, ranging from gastronomy to music, fashion to literature, E-sports to animation, and a lot more.

He said currently the creative industries continue to grow due to the advent of technology and churn out original products. Due to its fast-paced nature, he said that they are championing the government’s attention to this.

De Venecia also said that their bloc in congress, the Arts and Cultures and Creative Industries Bloc (ACCIB) which started from 12 members is now composed of 60 including Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, all of whom expressed support for their advocacies.
