Quitting the world of politics is one of the three options being considered by Senator Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao admitted that his retirement option is out of frustration with groups trying to ruin his name despite his sincere resolve to render public service.
Apart from retirement, the senator/boxer’s two other options are running for president or seeking reelection in the 2022 elections.
“Hindi po. Itong tatlo ang pinagpipilian ko: either tumakbo sa highest position or magbalik sa Senado or mag-give up na sa politika,” he said over ANC’s Headstart program on Sept. 1, 2021.
In considering retirement, Pacquiao, a congressman before running for senator in 2016, said he is disappointed with some people allegedly spreading “fabricated stories” to taint his name.
Pacquiao told Headstart host Karen Davila that he would make a decision on his political future before October 1. The filing of certificates of candidacies for the 2022 national and local elections. is scheduled in the first week of October.
Pacquiao is currently undergoing a two-week quarantine at a hotel since his return to the country after suffering a heartbreaking defeat in a Las Vegas bout.
The 42-year-old boxer was beaten by a Cuban fighter via unanimous decision during their August 22 match abroad. He has apologized to his fans but assured them that he did his best. The aging boxer has not announced any plan to retire from boxing.
