Duterte accepts Avisado’s resignation as DBM chief, names Canda as OIC

President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the resignation of Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed this in a letter addressed to Avisado dated August 13, 2021.

“We refer to your letter tendering your resignation as Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management. On behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte, this is to inform you that your resignation has been accepted, effective 13 August 2021. Best regards,” said Medialdea.

In his August 7, 2021 resignation letter, Avisado cited his health as a reason for his resignation.

The resigned budget chief mentioned his recent bout with Covid-19 where he was hospitalized for 10 days and quarantined for 34 days.

“Upon the advice of my cardiologist, I took a leave of absence until August 13, 2021 to undertake a series of medical examination considering that it has been 14 years now since I underwent a quadruple open heart bypass operation on January 7, 2007, three years after my appointment as City Administrator of Davao in 2004,” he wrote.

“The prognosis all point for me to take a rest from strenuous work and much pressure brought about by my current work so that I can fully recover and regain a much better health,” he added.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte designated Undersecretary Tina Rose Marie Canda as officer-in-charge of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
