Uh-oh.
The government made a bad move when it eased the movement restrictions in Metro Manila despite the rising cases of coronavirus.
Health reform advocate Dr. Tony Leachon made the blunt observation in opposing the government’s decision to relax the movement restrictions in Metro Manila until the end of the month.
From the two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), Metro Manila will shift to modified ECQ from August 21 to August 31, 2021.
“ECQ to MECQ in NCR at 15,000 new cases with Delta variant. We know the drill and the consequences of such wrong decision,” Leachon tweeted.
He warned about the dire consequences if the relaxed lockdown won’t work. “It would be worse if we will see more lives lost then IATF decides to shift back to ECQ,” he said.
Downgrading Metro Manila to MECQ is also ill-timed while the health department confronts deficiencies in the use of pandemic funds. “It’s not good time to relax when DOH ‘s image at its lowest,” he said.
