Philippines eyes P45.3 billion for Covid booster shots

By Prince Golez

The Philippine government is planning to spend P45.367 billion on booster doses of Covid-19 in 2022.

This budget is part of the Department of Health’s (DOH) Covid-response fund of P93.7 billion under the proposed 2022 National Expenditure Plan.

“In the 2022 budget we have a budget entry for booster shots for all Filipinos,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser Thursday.

“Ang halaga po ng booster shot, ang halaga po ng booster shot is P45 billion. This is for procurement of Covid-19 vaccine booster shots, kasama po iyan sa proposed 2022 budget,” he added.

Health experts in the Philippines have not yet recommended Covid-19 booster shots, citing lack of evidence that they are needed.

But, DOH Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje, chief of the National Vaccination Operations Center, said the agency is considering booster shots in next year’s budget.
