The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) vowed that it will speak with employers of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) whose jobs were affected by the conflict in Afghanistan.
“Well, sa ngayon kasi may urgency eh. Security, safety ang number one, at sa mga ganyang sitwasyon ang una talagang usapan diyan ay paglikas,” OWWA Administrator Hans Cacdac said in an interview on Abante’s Balitaan at Kumustahan.
He said usually OFWs are connected with companies that have international operations because this is allowed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
This includes, according to Cacdac, foreign embassies, military bases, multinational corporations or contractors.
“So ngayon sa tingin ko pag ganyan ang setup or sitwasyon nagbibigay daan yan sa pagkakaroon ng perhaps transfer or pagkakaroon pa ng patuloy na empleyo ng mga OFWs natin na naudlot ang trabaho sa Afghanistan,” he said.
He mentioned that OWWA has already put up a task force for the returning OFWs and that they will also provide financial, livelihood, and scholarship assistance as well as employment assistance.
