Puentevella seeks probe on PAGCOR’s delayed remittance to PSC

Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas President Monico Puentevella is calling on senators to investigate the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s (PAGCOR) alleged failure to remit billions of pesos to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Puentevella said PAGCOR has not been complying with Republic Act 6847 which mandates the state gaming firm to give five percent of its gross earnings to the PSC.

The PSC is supposed to use the remittance for the “National Sports Development Fund” meant to assist Filipino athletes.

“Buksan ninyo sa Senado! Lalabas kami lahat mga atleta, ako magsasalita while I’m still alive,” Puentevella said on Politiskoop.

“May pera ang Pilipinas na hindi binibigay sa atleta,” he added.

The sports development fund, according to RA 6847, may be used to finance the country’s participation in international competitions.

Puentevella said the Ramos administration was the last to implement the funding scheme for Filipino athletes.

“Ang problema, ang mga congressmen, ang mga senador, takot bumukas nito dahil delikado daw ito dahil nasa PAGCOR daw ito,” he said.
