The Supreme Court (SC) has conveyed the judiciary’s sadness over the passing of retired Justice Jose Perez.
The Judiciary mourns the passing today of its 167th Associate Justice, Hon. Jose Portugal Perez,” read the latest Twitter post of the SC Public Information Office (SCPIO).
“He was a court insider who worked his way up the ranks as a Technical Assistant in 1971 until his appointment as Associate Justice on Dec. 26, 2009,” it added.
Perez had been court administrator of the SC before being named as SC magistrate in 2009 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
He compulsorily retired on on Dec. 14, 2016.
