The Department of Justice (DOJ) is keeping close watch if the sex video of a former US diplomat and a 16-year-old Filipina has been spread online, said Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar said on Wednesday (Aug. 18).
The undersecretary pointed this out as former US diplomat Dean Cheves remains in the US.
Meanwhile, Villar said “we have not yet found a video of the victim shared by the accused online.”
“However, we can secure more evidence on whether Dean Cheves has shared a video or videos of the victim online through coordination with US foreign law enforcement agents and through our Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty,” she said.
Cheves, a former director posted at the US Embassy from September to February, is facing charges at the Pasay City regional trial court (RTC) for violating the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and for violation of the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009.
Aside from this, he has also been indicted by a federal jury for engaging in illicit conduct in a foreign place and possession of pornographic materials.
“At the moment the option for extradition is still being studied by the DOJ together with the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs),” Aglipay assured.
