Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao won’t just fade into obscurity.
For Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Pacquiao is no washed up boxer and will remain the people’s champ despite his recent defeat in the boxing ring.
Pacquiao, an eight-division world champion, lost to Yordenis Ugas of Cuba via unanimous decision during their match in Las Vegas Sunday, August 23, 2021.
Ugas kept his super welterweight title following the upset victory against Pacquiao. The Filipino boxer, also a senator, has apologized to his fans reaking loss, but said he did his best in the ring.
Despite Pacquiao’s heartbreaking loss, Dela Rosa took to Facebook to pay tribute to the boxer for still brining honor to the country.
“Ikaw parin ang nag-iisang pound-for-pound king, People’s Champ, at Filipino pride, Senator Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao!'” he said.
The former police chief praised Pacquiao for his world-class boxing talent, saying the Filipino nation is still proud of him.
“Salamat sa walang kupas at talagang worldclass na kagalingan mo sa larangan ng boxing, pati sa walang sawang pagbibigay ng karangalan para sa bayan, pre! Proud kami sayo! ” he said.
