The Commission on Audit (COA) has the authority to conduct an audit of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) because the organization accepts funds from the government, President Rodrigo Duterte said.
During his televised public briefing aired Wednesday, Duterte said the PRC should submit to him and Congress an annual report covering its financial condition and operation.
“Senator (Dick) Gordon, hindi mo ito ginawa. Wala akong nabasa galing sa ‘yo. Kailangan yan,” the country’s chief executive said.
“Kung ang Red Cross tumatanggap ng pera, gumagastos ng pera ng gobyerno, ng Republika ng Pilipinas, you are subject to an audit. Hindi pwedeng hindi. Pera ng gobyerno eh,” he added.
Duterte claimed that Gordon, who sits as chairman of the PRC, is afraid to subject their funds to audit by COA because of his anomalies in the agency.
“Itong sabi ni Gordon na hindi siya pwede ma-audit is takot ka kasi alam mo marami ka nang atraso all throughout the years and you cannot possibly have the time to cover up everything also,” he said.
