Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea believes Senator Dick Gordon is bent on surpassing the longest Blue Ribbon probe on corruption allegations against then Vice President Jojo Binay from 2014 to 2015.
“We’re only on the fifth day and I think they intend to break the record of the Binay investigation for 25 days, Your Honor. We’re wasting so much time, effort,” said Medialdea in a briefing.
“In fighting a pandemic, Your Honor, we cannot waste a daily hearing on all these matters,” added Medialdea.
Medialdea was referring to the Senate investigation led by former senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Alan Cayetano on alleged anomalous contracts, deals, and projects involving Binay and members of his family which began on August 14 and ended a year later.
The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chaired by Gordon is currently investigating the awarding of multi-billion peso pandemic supply contracts by resigned Budget Secretary Christopher Lloyd Lao and Department of Health to Pharmally and the president’s business consultant Michael Yang.
President Rodrigo Duterte, who presided the briefing, said the hearings were just all talk and meant to bolster the political stock of Gordon and other senators ahead of the 2022 campaign.
“There are so many things to take care of actually on the home front. And if you keep on calling people to testify there, how can they work?” said Duterte.
