President Rodrigo Duterte wants Senator Dick Gordon to be replaced as chairman of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), saying that the legislator has been at the helm of the organization “for the longest time.”
“As far as I can remember, Boy Scout pa ako noon, Red Cross na yan siya. Totoo lang,” Duterte said in his taped public address aired Wednesday.
He claimed that Gordon uses PRC as if it were his own.
“Ikaw Gordon, mahilig ka mag imbestiga ng anomalya, katiwalian, pero pagdating sa iyong Red Cross na hinawakan mo na parang propyedad mo, for the longest time hindi ka na natanggal diyan, dapat palitan ka na. Pero kontrolado mo kasi e,” he also said.
Duterte insisted that PRC should be subject to auditing by the Commission on Audit as it was given funds by the government.
“Hindi pwede sabihihin niyang Red Cross na independent (sila), hindi na maabot ng gobyerno. ‘Pag ang pera galing sa gobyerno, binigay sa kamay mo, para i-implement mo ang isang project or whatever, the receiving entity or the person is automatically responsible for that money,” he explained.
