The late President Ferdinand Marcos would have turned 104th on Sept. 11, 2021. His family and supporters are remembering the former leader on his birthday anniversary in a special way.
Leading the tribute to Marcos is his grandson Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos. In a Facebook post, the young governor described Marcos as an extraordinary leader and an inspiration to all.
“An extraordinary leader who, despite the odds, had never forgotten his responsibilities as a father and a grandfather. Truly, he is an example of a man who envisions greatness for his family and for his people—an inspiration to everyone.Happy Birthday, Apo Ferdinand Marcos,” Marcos’ post read on Facebook.
The elder Marcos served as the country’s president from 1966 to 1986 but his authoritarian regime had been marred by corruption and rights abuses. Marcos was forced to flee abroad after being ousted by a bloodless popular revolt. He died on September 28, 1989 in exile in Honolulu, Hawaii.
