House panel adopts resolution urging Comelec to put up more satellite registration centers

The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms has adopted a resolution urging the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to establish additional satellite registration centers nationwide and overseas.

The committee also endorsed House Bill 2168 for adoption in the plenary.

The resolution highlighted the effect of the health pandemic to the conduct of voter registration as well as reactivation of the previous registration.

The Comelec said that more than 61 million are already registered and qualified to vote in the 2022 elections.

But according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) there will be 73 million Filipinos who will be at least 18 years old by May 2022.

“There is a need to increase the capacity of the Comelec to accommodate registrants by increasing the number of registration centers nationwide and overseas,” the resolution read.
